Disparate Memories, 2017
The negative, the direct evidence of the real, revealed qualities and details that are unseen in the positive image. Simulating the traditional photographic process and creating negative prints, I am forced to reinvestigate what I know. I have been visiting museums dealing with East Germans history in Berlin on and off over the last 20 years. Each time they evoke a strong emotional reaction which I carry around and affects me even when I am back in England. I realise the extent to which we have been defrauded all this time. The details now are only historical facts. Victims and participants of the systems although most of them still alive are only a statistic, the vast paper trail of power is archived.
